Article Abstract:

The banking industry in Indonesia has undergone deregulation, which has resulted in too many banks being opened. The government has been trying to merge state banks as a way to alleviate this problem through its central bank, Bank Indonesia. Another risk factor in the banking industry has been the high credit growth, which rose to 22.5% in 1996.

Bank Media has made good headway in the Jakarta banking market, with total assets increasing to Rp514 billion in 1996. Net income increased from Rp3 billion in 1995 to Rp3.5 billion in 1996. Bank Media is focused on the retail and corporate banking sectors. The bank is growing at a stable rate with 19 branches within the Jakarta region.
