Hilton has announced an internet strategy that could strengthen Ladbroke in the market for online betting, and Ladbroke has access to viewers of Sky Sports through an agreement with Open. profits from retail betting dropped in 1999 as a result of low profit margins for on-course betting, though a correction is likely over the long term. The acquisition of Stakis in 1999 strengthens Hilton's hotel side, following its integration, and new hotels are being built. Hilton's pre-tax profit is forecast at 305 million pounds sterling for 2000 by Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, with a rise to 355 million pounds for 2001.
