Article Abstract:

A spot-and-read colorimetric detection technique is developed to locate nucleic acid series depending on the distance-dependant optical features of gold nanoparticles. DNA-modified gold probes that undergo a color change, identify the aim of the nucleic acid targets that are easily visible when the solutions are observed on an illuminated glass waveguide.

Clostridium novyi-NT is engineered to be non-toxic by deleting major systemic toxin gene and is shown to eradicate tumors in mice. Engineered bacteria have great promise as cancer therapeutics and engineered Clostridium novyi would likely facilitate the development of bacterial cancer therapies.

Lactobacillus sakei is a psychrotrophic lactic acid bacterium found naturally on fresh meat and fish. Genome sequencing revealed a specialized metabolic repertoire, including purine nucleoside scavenging that may contribute to an ability to successfully compete on raw meat products.
