How to cash in on the movies

Article Abstract:

Movies are making more money than before, and making it faster. There are good profits to be made in the United Kingdom motion picture industry, though it is small in comparison with the US. Income tax relief of 100% has been available to investors since 1997 in qualifying UK motion picture, the the period for which tax relief is available has been extended to five years from three years, in early 1999. Tax liabilities can be used by investors een if they do not make money on their investment, but there are risks involved and investing in motion picture is not a sensible way to fund retirement.

Canal Plus: Hollywood dreams fade

Article Abstract:

Carolco has been acquired by Twentieth Century Fox for $50 million. Carolco's creditors include Canal Plus, which held a 17% stake in Carolco. Carolco developed financial problems due to high production costs. Canal Plus has invested around 300 million French francs in Carolco from 1990 to 1995. A great deal of this sum cannot be recovered, though part may appear as profit for Carolco. European companies do not have enough experience to become involved in Hollywood motion pictures, according to Andrea Kirby from Daiwa.
