'I'd like to own everything': Ted Turner talks about MGM, the Goodwill Games, Turner Broadcasting - and Ted Turner
Article Abstract:
Ted Turner, the head of Turner Broadcasting System and many other business ventures, is confident that the $1.5 billion he spent to acquire MGM and its 3,600 films will prove to be a good investment, even if he has to sell MGM's production facilities to help pay for the deal. One of his newest ventures is the Olympic-style 'Goodwill Games', to be played in Moscow in July 1986 by athletes from 50 nations. He hopes the games will become a regular event, although advertisers are not hurrying to become involved. An earlier venture, Cable News Network (CNN), is making a profit for the first time, and Turner denies that he is considering selling his interest in the network. Turner has not let his thwarted attempt to purchase CBS bother him; he is adamant that he still wants to own at least one television network.
