Article Abstract:

The interest rates on capital protected equity products for a one-year term of 20% and upwards are considered by the Government as a revenue drain. In a Press Release, the Treasurer announced that the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 would be amended to ensure that part of the expense on capital protected products would be attributed to the capital protection feature.

Article Abstract:

A lot is happening on the international tax front including the Australian Government's Budget announcement on reforms, new rules for foreign currency gains and losses and the U.S. Protocol. An update of the changing Australian tax environment in regard to international dealing is given.
