Insiders staying put

Article Abstract:

The level of insider selling of securities can give a near accurate glimpse into the future of the stock market. From Jan. to May 1996, when the market was moving upward, insiders disposed of a large number of their shares. Following the market's decline in Jun. and Jul. 1996, the volume of shares traded by insiders dropped. After stock prices rose again in September, insider selling remained at its low levels, indicating the bullishness of insiders over market prospects.

Time to gauge the January barometer effect

Article Abstract:

The last few months of the year can provide good buying opportunities for stock investors. During this period, companies acquire losses to offset gains that were acquired. Stocks that undergo this tax loss selling method usually increase in value at the start of the new year. To identify these types of stocks, investors can examine the level or the volume of insider trading activity.
