Leader of the better than average club

Article Abstract:

John Knight runs HSBC's Income trust unit and has performed better than average since he took over this task in 1989. He assesses trends in the UK economy as part of his decision making, and he also pays close attention to the accounts of companies he plans to invest in. Cash Flow Return on Investment is one analysis technique he uses, in addition to Economic Value Added. He argues that he assesses products in terms of avoiding disasters rather than selecting winners.
