Article Abstract:

The FINAX software package from Orchard Business Systems Ltd. of Great Britain provides basic accounting services, as well as capabilities for maintenance of general ledgers, fixed assets records, inventory control, report generation, sales ledgers, invoicing, job costing and supplier files, for a base cost of 500 pounds sterling. FINAX runs on microcomputers using either an MS-DOS or PC-DOS operating system, is menu-driven, and is especially functional for users with color terminals. The package is not designed to handle transactions involving large numbers,but is otherwise adequate for accountants and small businessmen. Consolidation of the ledgers maintained on a FINAX is also unnecessarily complex.

Eight tasks at a time

Article Abstract:

XCHANGE is an integrated software package that has graphics, word processing, database management and spreadsheet programs. XCHANGE is used in the OPD work station made by ICL, but it is also available for use on other microcomputers. The package can perform up to 8 tasks at once. The QUILL word processing program is flexible and easy to use, but it does not have a dictionary. ARCHIVE, the database, uses a self-contained programming language and can hold up to 15,000 records with 255 fields. XCHANGE can transfer data between the graphics, spreadsheet and database modules.
