Booming PC sales highlight need for sound recycling solutions

Article Abstract:

Hewlett-Packard (HP) is an example of a computer company that offers customers a voluntary take-back program for the disposal of their old and discarded computer equipment. Customers are given discounts on the purchase of new equipment when they turn over their used equipment to HP for recycling. Plastics used in its computers are not reused by HP but are shipped to WilsonArt International, which are then transformed into flooring products.

Longs Drug Stores

Article Abstract:

Longs Drug Stores Inc. of Walnut Creek, CA, which operates 349 locations, gets attention for of its eight-page, free-standing color newspaper insert which ran for two consecutive weeks in May 1997. The May inserts called PhotoNews promoted photo category sales exclusively. The success of the inserts was great, generating record sales for the year. Aside from cameras, the winning ad also featured frames, albums, batteries, film and processing services. According to the company's category manager for photo and Longs brands, Mark Holz, the company looks at the new models at PMA every year and choose those cameras which will be carried in the company's core line for the coming year.

Kodak revamps Medalist program for added assistance and incentives

Article Abstract:

Eastman Kodak Co of Rochester, NY, has launched its Medalist Plus Program to provide value-added incentives on a broad array of Kodak products. Under the program, Medalist products carry a sticker whose ID is dialed by the salesperson when purchased. The accumulated points can be redeemed by store owners and salespeople at such stores as Best Buy, Home Depot and Eddie Bauer.
