Article Abstract:

The increasing demand for oil by the rapidly-growing economies of China and India, with their dependence upon imports, has upset the supply-demand balance and resulted in escalating world oil prices. An overview of the competition between these two countries for global energy resources is presented. The scope for China to enhance its energy efficiency is discussed.
