The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy held a conference on Computer Security and Computer Audit where the need for secure computer data was emphasized. Auditors of business organizations and government agencies discussed high tech problems of information technology. Council's IT gaps exposed

Article Abstract:

A study conducted by Coopers and Lybrand Deloitte accountants for the Foundation for Information Technology in Local Government and the Society of Information Technology Managers revealed defects in information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) management in local government. Aside from insufficient funding for IS/IT departments in local government, the role of IS/IT services was unclear. Moreover, corporate business plans and information strategies were undocumented. A succeeding study will develop IS/IT management models for local government authorities.
