MEPC
Article Abstract:
MEPC has retained its independence, despite a bid from Hammerson. The company's chief executive, James Tuckey, has carried out a restructuring program and 400 million pounds sterling has been returned to stockholders. Overseas real estate valued at some 1 billion pounds sterling has been sold, and this will affect rental income. The sale of Australian assets involved a loss of 19 million pounds sterling and real estate was sold in Europe prior to the market's revival. The restructuring will help MEPC focus on the UK, and lower UK interest rates should help the industry.

MEPC mystery adds to doubts
Article Abstract:
MEPC is a UK real estate company which has underperformed and was affected by the collapse of the UK market during the early 1990s. The company had to improve its portfolio and has sold a number of offices in London, England, reinvesting funds raised in leisure real estate and retail parks. The company should benefit from a revival in the UK market but would be affected by a slower rise than forecast in real estate values. Dividends are not likely to be raised, and there are concerns about the departure of the company's finance director.
