Marcadia postponed: marketing, utopia and the millenium

Article Abstract:

Utopian philosophy considers that marketing encourages people to spend, covet materialistic things and be greedy. However an alternative perspective is that marketing is beneficial to the production of a better world. An explanation of Utopia and its history is given, followed by ways in which utopian philosophy has misunderstood the role of marketing. Marketing can contribute towards utopianism by offering customers what they want. However it is suggested that Utopia is never what it seems and rapidly becomes a paradise lost.
