Microsoft penetrates hospitality market; accidental conversation prompts hotel-management software

Article Abstract:

Microsoft Corp. has been negotiating deals with top software developers engaged in developing software for the hospitality industry in an effort to gain market share in this segment of the market. The move was made in response to observations that hotels are ready to buy new computer systems to replace existing ones. Concord, CA-based Hotel Information Systems, one of Microsoft's 50 business partners, has launched its HIS for Windows.

Software publishing's quick recovery

Article Abstract:

Software Publishing Corp (SPC) faced a problem when it was about to launch a new product and its competitors preempted it by launching similar software programs. SPC countered this by utilizing an advertising campaign which aimed to generate anticipation for its product among potential customers. Although SPC could not yet launch the Harvard Graphics for Windows, its advertisements managed to gain consumer awareness and hype for it.

Borland takes on Lotus, microsoft in Windows spreadsheet shootout

Article Abstract:

Borland International has introduced in the market the Quattro Pro for Windows spreadsheet in competition with Microsoft Corp which sells the Excel spreadsheet and Lotus Development Corp, with 1-2-3 for Windows. Borland offers users both the DOS and Windows versions of Quattro Pro for a promotion price of $495. It is expected that the two-for-one pricing marks will attract existing Borland customers and users of other products.
