Mike Mills: the boy next door

Film and Video Director Mike Mills broke into directing videos after he shot a videopress kit for Artist Frank Black. He had previously work as a designer of T shirts and CD covers after graduating from Cooper Union in New York during 1992. He also worked on television advertisements for firms, such as Gap and Nike and designed graphics for bands like Sonic Youth. His first full length film 'The Architecture of Reassurance' features a young girl exploring the suburbs. He prefers to have a documentary feel to his work and admires directors such as Errol Morris.

Article Abstract:

R.J. Reynolds has phased out the Joe Camel character after nine years in tobacco advertising. The air-brushed cartoon camel was designed by art director Peter Hall in 1988. The character is being replaced due to government and public pressure amid claims that Joe was intended to appeal to children. The design was also criticised for resembling a penis. Hall has rejected an offer to design a replacement cartoon character.
