Molecular engineering approaches to peptide, polyketide and other antibiotics

Article Abstract:

The advancements in the molecular engineering approaches or combinatorial biosynthesis, especially antibacterial agents, are discussed. Molecular engineering approaches are used for producing various antibiotics like peptide antibiotics, glycopeptides, lipopeptide antibiotics, polyketide antibiotics and other antibiotics and secondary metabolites.

High-throughput generation of small antibacterial peptides with improved activity

Article Abstract:

A high-throughput method to screen large numbers of peptides for improved antimicrobial activity is described in a study. The method relies on peptide synthesis on a cellulose support and a Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain that constitutively expresses bacterial luciferase.
