More tax incentives for savings

Article Abstract:

Tax incentives to encourage personal saving may not be effective for the baby boomer generation according to a report by the Joint Committee on Taxation. More persons of that generation are covered by employer pensions, and the overwhelming majority of their parents live above the poverty line largely due to their receipt Social Security benefits. Additionally, those with surplus funds who are likely to save, save without incentives.
