'Net travel biz surges to $2.1B, offering big PR 'hits'

Article Abstract:

Public relations agencies and their affiliate travel agencies are benefitting from business applications of the Internet with travel packages, lodgings, and airline tickets worth over $2.1 billion bought in 1998. This data from research company Jupiter Communications is higher than the $275 million of 1996. Online travel site provider American Express believes that $7.4 billion in travel sales via the Internet will be conducted by 2001. The growth can be explained by the fact that travelers need information which is easily accessed through the Internet.
