Network-centric banking

Article Abstract:

Banking institutions can maximize the potential of electronic commerce by adopting the network-centric approach. Network-centric banking can dismiss the challenge of the Internet in the electronic payment arena by offering products and services that are tailored specifically to the network environment. Electronic billing, in fact, provides different opportunities for banks. They could offer fee-based certificate authority issuance through automated teller machines. In addition, they could provide electronic document transmission service in partnership with electronic network companies. Banks, however, must analyze whether electronic commerce is suitable to their operations. Larger banks have to make the transition to a network-centric environment while community and other smaller banks can focus more on traditional business lines where local contacts are important.

Terms of Endearment: Quebec and the rest of the country approach constitutional change from very different starting points

Article Abstract:

The cultural differences between Canadians of French and English descent have plagued the country for centuries. The two cultures' views toward constitutional change are far apart, with Quebeckers believing that such changes should be undertaken every quarter of a century while English Canadians prone to resisting any change whatsoever. These cultural stumbling blocks must be overcome if Canada is to continue as an example to the world of democracy and tolerance.
