New menuboards drive Wienerschnitzel sales

Hot dog chain Wienerschnitzel has seen its sales rise after its menuboards were redesigned. The new menuboards focus consumers' attention to photos of Wienerschnitzel's combo meals, which have risen by 5 to 10% in test stores. Wienerschnitzel engaged the services of retail design consultant King-Casey, which used its Customer Operating Zone Improvement (COZI) methodology in modifying the menuboards. COZI focuses on consumer behavior, from the moment a patron enters a restaurant until they leave.

Burger King unveils new image

Burger King Corp plans to launch major transformation strategies on its 8,400 restaurants across the US. The initiative will begin with investing in facility improvements followed by emphasis on speed of service, accelerated product innovation and excellent marketing. The program includes elements, such as a new Burger King logo and signage, interior and exterior restaurant re-imaging, a Virtual Fun Center computer game system and a new Drive-Thru 2000 system.

'McDonald's with diner inside' debuts

Fastfood giant McDonald's is testing a fastfood restaurant with a diner at an outlet in Kokomo, IN. The innovative store will offer the traditional McDonald's experience but diners have the option of dining at their own pace while being given table service and being served classic diner favorites or the usual McDonald's menu items. The retailing concept will allow McDonald's to assess customers' reactions to a novel dining experience.
