Article Abstract:

Richemont is planning an offer of 1.04 billion pounds sterling for a 30% stake in Vendome Luxury. The offer does not appear generous, but minority stockholders have little power to improve it. Richemont is using investors' concerns over a crisis in Asian markets, which account for 38% of Vendome's sales. Richemont argues that it will have to invest substantial sums in Vendome. Mercury Asset Management is among the largest of the minority stockholders and may be able to negotiate a better price.
