Not so precious
Article Abstract:
Billiton plans a stock issue which will value the company at some 5 billion pounds sterling. Institutional investors are likely to be attracted since there is only one other mining company in the FTSE 100. The company is mainly involved in aluminum and prices look set to rise, accordig to analysts, though investors may prefer to select a company that is only involved in aluminum. The company is also involved in titanium, nickel, ferroalloys, coal and steel. Lower managanese and chrome alloy prices have affected profits, as has a reduction in the production of nickel.

Trend befriends RTZ
Article Abstract:
RTZ CRA's share price has performed well over the long term. Share prices tend not to move upward for long, even when the long-term performance is good. Most of the time they are stable or falling. RTZ shares show a persistent trend over the long term which can be presented graphically. Setbacks have resulted in reversals leaving RTZ's shares higher than previously. Shares should be worth buying when they are starting to recover. A steep break in a chart line could signify exhaustion so caution should be used.

Mining
Article Abstract:
There has been a rise in the stock prices of companies involved in metals, but mining stocks have been previously hit by a prolonged downturn which has hit prices and meant that production costs have not always been covered. Production cuts are planned, which has led hedge-fund managers to push up prices in anticipation. These cuts may not be sufficient for mining shares to rally over a long period. Stock buybacks have been carried out, which should help to boost stockholder value.
