Partco: sum of the parts

Article Abstract:

Partco plans to acquire Serck Marston and this should help boost the company's profits through increasing sales. The company has large overheads so a rise in sales has a major impact on profits. There will be cost savings from shutting down warehouse space and head office. Partco and Serck products can be sold using each other's outlets. Partco will be able to service its national accounts more easily through the additional outlets. Serck Marston's management will be retained and this should help with the manufacturing side of the acquisition.

Car rivals join forces

Article Abstract:

Valeo is the biggest French automobile supplies concern, and Cerus, which holds 28% of Valeo, is reportedly considering selling this stake. Jacques calvet, chairman of PSA Peugeot Citroen, has threatened non-renewal of contracts for parts from Valeo, should it be acquired by a US competitor. Other European automobile producers, Renault and Volkwagen, could follow PSA's lead, and this would have a major impact on Valeo's sales, making an acquisition unlikely at Valeo's existing valuation.
