Pentagon contracts that require UID use to grow by 2010

The US Department of Defense (DOD) is expecting the use of the unique identification (UID) technology to grow by 2010 as more contracts mandate its use. The use of UID is expected to enhance DOD efficiency greatly in terms inventory and logistics and finally it is going to be a money-saving device because it reduces manpower hours.

The costs of DD(X) destroyer and CG(X) cruisers have accelerated, according to the newly updated Congressional Research Service (CRS). The report suggests that an increase of about 18 percent was observed in the case of first destroyers and the prices of the later DD(X)s will soar at double the pace of the first ships.
