India's best kept tax secret

Article Abstract:

Mauritius' tax treaties with India help US companies avoid taxes on revenues derived from business operations in India. The tax benefits can be enjoyed by businesses registered in the island nation. Mauritius also do not impose withholding taxes on dividends, interest or royalties and capital gains taxes or stamp duties. However, manufacturing firms maintain a low profile about their activities in Mauritius for fear of violent opposition from Indian nationalists.
