Play safe for a decent income

Article Abstract:

British convertible loan stocks have been supported by the strength of the government securities market and reductions in interest rates. Investors should be cautious, despite the good performance of many of these stocks, since profit warnings and poor results can hit convertibles hard. A decent income can be achieved, even when investors are being cautious. Real estate and construction companies have been affected by a change in market performance but there are still opportunities in these sectors for investors, such as John Laing.

Get them before they slow down

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom FTSE 250 companies are medium-sized concerns, and they offer opportunities for investors. They initially did not perform as well as larger companies, represented by the FTSE 100 index, but this has changed in 1999. Fund managers can make more accurate assessments of medium-sized companies' prospects, and they may offer opportunities for growth or for exploiting niches that are unavailable with larger firms. It is less easy to find good investments among larger companies, which attract the mass of investors.
