Polaroid's new youth-oriented cameras energize sales

Polaroid Corp, based in Cambridge, MA, has introduced its I-Zone Instant Pocket Camera and JoyCam instant camera aimed at young potential consumers. Both silver-body cameras are ergonomically-designed and each sells for a suggested retail price of $24.95. Based on A.C. Nielson figures, the I-Zone was the best-selling camera in the US mass-market sector during the 13-week period ending Feb 26, 2000 with sales of more than 540,000 units, while the JoyCam was also included in the top five.

Ridgefield Park, NJ-based Agfa Corp has introudced the new Agfa d-lab.3 digital minilab. The product features high resolution, 12-bit image scanning and silver-halide photographic paper output at speeds up to 1,700 for 4-by-6-inch, 400-dpi prints per hour. It automatically corrects for backlighting, artificial lighting, high contrast images, over- and under- exposed negatives, graininess and color. Digital dust and scratch removal is also performed automatically.

Wood Dale IL-based Xeikon America Inc has introduced the Xeikon D2F2 Dry Digital Foto Finishing system for the digital color press market. The product is designed for the all-digital lab. It lacks film-processing capability and completely eliminates the need for photo chemicals. It is a high-volume, in-line machine which can print, laminate or varnish and die cut up to 8,600 prints per hour in formats from 4-by-6 inches to 12- by-18 inches.
