Possible errors in the comparative evaluation of drop jumps from different heights

Article Abstract:

Drop jumps (DJ) from elevated platforms are important in plyometric training. Researchers have attempted to identify the optimal dropping elevation leading to a maximal jump height but there is little consensus about this issue. It is argued that there are considerable differences between platform levels and actual dropping heights. Two alternative biomechanical methods for controlling the actual dropping height are introduced, and it is suggested that the dropping dynamics should be included in a biomechanical analysis to control a proper dropping method.

The prediction of car driver size and position to enhance safety in crashes

Article Abstract:

The positions adopted by car drivers depend on their physical characteristics, the range of adjustability options and their preferred driving posture. Certain significant anthropometric dimensions of drivers and their position in the vehicle and in relation to the steering wheel, were measured. The results revealed that it was possible to predict drivers' head and chest positions relative to the steering wheel and predict certain physical dimensions of drivers.

Emerging expertise in process control

Article Abstract:

Process control is examined via a study of power production regulation in a French nuclear power plant. Cognitive research usually characterizes expert process control as a way of foreseeing future process states with expertise resting in the mental processes. However the study shows that expert operations control power level via a range of progressively adjusted control actions that are not extensively planned or parametrized in any detail.
