Power struggle

Article Abstract:

The planned deregulation of the utility industry will have various effects on both the utilities and the businesses that buy electricity. According to a market research firm, an estimated $1 trillion wholesale sector growth is expected to happen in the next five years from the current $50 billion wholesale electricity market. For corporations, the deregulation will enable them to select a supplier and risk management will evolve. Also, treasurers in the utility business will have the power to issue asset-backed securities and then trade derivatives that will force utilities to trade on the open market.
