Put that in your pipe
Article Abstract:
Chevron has begun to produce oil in Kazakhstan but the company has been affected by a pipeline shortage which has hampered efforts to export the oil. There is capapcity in Russian pipelines, but they are unwilling to allow it to be used. A new pipeline could cost over $1 billion and would not be ready for some years. The difficulties Chevron is experiencing are unlikely to affect its profit in the short term. Other companies have had problems in the region, such as Elf Aquitaine, which has unsuccessfully drilled in Kazakhstan.

Oil explorer's 'major find' in Colombia
Article Abstract:
Emerald Energy has made a petroleum discovery at its Gigante well in Colombia. The company holds a half stake in the field, which should bring in 30 million barrels of petroleum. The company should benefit from a cash flow that will allow it to drill a new well in 2000. Emerald may also need to issue more stocks and increase its debt level. Emerald faces higher costs since Lasmo/Monument is not continuing with its stake in the concession, but Emerald should also receive a higher proportion of the benefits.
