Putting immunoinformatics to the test

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that epitope-mapping tools accelerate the discovery of viral sequences that accounted for an overwhelmingly large proportion of the response to vaccinia virus infection in a mouse model is presented. In addition to revealing the power of immuno-informatics, the study also shows that when a host mounts an anti-viral attack, it might sample and respond to a broader array of antigens than was previously thought.

A consensus epitope prediction approach identifies the breadth of murine [T.sub.CD8+]-cell responses to vaccinia virus

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that conventional bioinformatic methods predict the vast majority of [T.sub.CD8+]-cell epitopes derived from vaccinia WR strain (VACV-WR) in the H-[2.sup.b] mouse model is presented. It is revealed that the breadth of T-cell responses to vaccinia, a widely studied murine viral infection model, would provide a tool for developing comprehensive antigenic maps of any complex pathogen.

Regulating rejection with cell therapy

Article Abstract:

The study by Joffre and his colleagues, which demonstrates the use of regulatory T cells (Tregs) to avoid acute and chronic rejection of skin and cardiac allografts, is presented. The alloantigen recognition by T cells is investigated.
