Rand study says U.S. urgently needs carriers, including CVN 21

Article Abstract:

Aircraft carriers have improved their capability to prosecute wars with the introduction of the cutting-edge CVN 21 next-generation carrier, according to a study by the Rand Corp., an independent Washington area think tank and further advancements are in store for the floating airfields. The Rand report states that carriers are vitally needed type of combat asset to take on wars of the 21st century and the new-departure innovations on CVN 21 is a major step towards carrier technology.

Levin says tanker planes must have all-US content

Article Abstract:

Senator Carl Levin of Michigan has stated that the US Air Force's existing tanker refueling aircrafts must be replaced and the new aircrafts should be made entirely in the United States. The decision of retiring Air Force F/A-22 Raptor strike/attack aircraft would be taken after a Pentagon Quadrennial Defense Review that might not finish until the end of 2005.
