Relocation: north of England, slipping down the list
Article Abstract:
Business relocations to northern England could drop, partly due to the UK as a whole becoming less popular. Other locations such as Spain, Italy, France and eastern Europe are becoming more popular, and relations between the UK and European Union could help explain this. The 1990s recession has also reduce the urgency for companies relocating from London, England. English Partnerships is seen as a major player in inward investment and aims to set up sites that investors will see as attractive.

Public sector slowly drops out
Article Abstract:
The public sector has played a major role in relocations to northern England, but this is changing. Some earlier relocations face problems, such as a move by NHS Executive to Leeds, England, where it has too little office space. The difference in costs between southern and northern England relating to salaries and occupancy is not as great as it was in the 1980s when there was a major drive to relocate. Relocations can help regional development but they do not offer a cure on their own.
