Reshaping the Econobox
Article Abstract:
Entry-level cars are increasingly designed to be more sculptural, stylistic and aesthetically appealing, besides having economical prices, due to advancement in computer modeling and planned organization. Cars by market leaders have undergone stylistic and technological transformations based on market research. With Asian cars entering the scenario and the market forcing a downsizing, styling has become the most important variable for American automakers to hook customers. Design models of the Honda Civic, Ford Escort, Chevrolet Cavalier and the Chrysler Neon are discussed.

Inside out at last: design in the driver's seat
Article Abstract:
Automotive designers are paying more attention to the interiors of cars so that buyers feel at home sitting inside them. Five new cars, Lincoln Mark VIII, Honda Prelude, Civic Del Sol, Mazda RX7 and Toyota Previa, have unified, sensible and attractive interiors. The pillars, seats, dashboards and knobs of the cars have been designed to provide a comfortable environment for the driver. The designers simplified the interiors by using new metals and computer aided molding techniques to create simpler forms that are stylish and functional.
