Coral Products, a plastic video and CD box manufacturer, has recovered profit during the past few years through investments in modern manufacturing facilities. Video case manufacturing represents 60% of sales, but the move into CD packaging has proved successful. It has managed to make margin improvements by increasing automation at its Haydock site. It is also seeing growth in its plastic housewares operations.

Heritage, a London based houseware goods supplier, requires a rights issue as it is over-borrowed. Its interim profits were down 57% to 49,000 pounds sterling compared to 1993. The company operates in a difficult market selling low ticket, bottom of the range glass, ceramic and plastic housewares products. It has a diverse client base including WH Smith, Sainsbury and Woolworth's.

Grosvenor Inns, a specialist pub operator has seen encouraging results in the six months to November 1994 and is concentrating on its Slug & Lettuce and Hedgehog & Hogshead pubs. It is also opening a second Bar Central, joint venture brasseries, with more planned. Marketing and development director is David Bruce who founded the successful Firkin theme pubs businesse.
