Roche integrates HIV therapeutics and diagnostics

Article Abstract:

Roche Holding has decided to market selected drugs with diagnostic tests. Through this disease management strategy, one which the company calls Integrated Healthcare Solutions, Roche hopes ultimately to present individualized preventive medicine. Roche's first offering through its Integrated Healthcare Solutions is PCR (polymerase chain reaction)-based diagnostic tests for HIV with protease inhibitors. Physicians determine the viral load in HIV subtype B infected individuals and AIDS patients using Roche's Amplicor HIV-1 Monitor T test. This test could save over $12,000 a-year in ineffective AIDS treatments.

Chemotherapy-resistant human AML stem cells home to and engraft within the bone-marrow endosteal region

Article Abstract:

Primary human acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) xenotransplantation model shows that leukemic stem (LS) cells have recapitulated AML and retained self-renewal capacity in vivo and they home to and engraft within the osteoblast-rich area of the bone marrow. Results showed the utility of this AML xenograft model for developing novel therapeutic strategies targeted at LS cells.
