SIMEX MSCI Taiwan stock index futures

The Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) has introduced MSCI Taiwan stock index futures to meet the needs of Taiwanese investors looking for equity derivatives for hedging purposes. Before the introduction of the MSCI Taiwan stock index futures, investors in the Taiwanese Stock Exchange (TSE) lacked the means to hedge their portfolios. SIMEX's futures contract is based on the TSE's MSCI stock index.

The Karachi Stock Exchange Ltd. is gradually emerging from a long bear market that began in 1995. Since Nawaz Sharif became Prime Minister of Pakistan in Feb 1997, the KSE-100 index has risen by over 20%, and Mhaha Securities broker Kayani predicts that the KSE will see a 25% increase in 1997. The new government has implemented measure such as a capital gains tax to boost investment in the stock market.
