Truckers head for new routes to dodge jams

Article Abstract:

UK logistics companies have been affected by oversupply and their share prices have tended to underperform the market. Food retailers have exerted pressure on logistics firms in a drive to cut costs. Companies that have sought to expand abroad have not had promising results. Germany and France have been affected by low levels of economic growth, while competition in the US is intense. Some companies such as NFC have more weight and are more likely to perform well in international markets.

Tiger slips its leash

Article Abstract:

Applied Distribution is a UK storage and distribution concern which works for retailers on contracts. The company has benefited from a trend for retailers to contract out these operations. There could be problems resulting in the loss of a contract from Esso later in 1996. The contract may not be replaced by others offering as good margins. Retailers are under pressure to reduce costs due to increased competition which in turn puts pressure on distributors.
