Self centred

Article Abstract:

Peel Holdings is the real estate developer which has invested in the Trafford Centre, a retail development near Manchester, England. The Trafford Centre has scarcity value because planning permission for large out-of-town developments has become increasingly difficult to obtain. John Whittaker of Peel Holdings does not plan to sell the center although such a sale would bring in a large amount of money. The funding period is short since Peel Holdings aims to have full control of the center as rapidly as possible.

Shopper's paradise?

Article Abstract:

The Trafford center retail development, near Manchester, England, has aroused concern among city center retailers about the impact of a major ou-of-town site. There is also concern about the impact of the new development on traffic congestion, especially since a warehouse development is planned. Trafford also has a leisure element which the promoters emphasise. The impact can be assessed when the center is opened in late 1998.
