Sitting on a northern money spinner

Article Abstract:

Office furniture manufacturer Alan Cooper Holdings PLC has been growing due to positive financial management. The company expanded into a listed company with a 10 million pounds sterling turnover in 1988, and they recently opened a new factory in Altham, Lancashire which was funded completely with in-house cash reserves. Some of the business' success is due to Alan Cooper's innovative personnel policies which have reduced labor costs 40% and make it one of the most popular employers in their area. The company has expanded into the 140 million pounds sterling seating market, and there are also plans to look into expanding into the European market.

Baker's dozen boosts buy-out business

Article Abstract:

Candover Investments, with assets of 42.9 million pounds sterling and an investment fund of 319 million pounds sterling, is the only publicly traded management buyout group in the UK. According to founder Roger Brooke, Candover is the only company in the UK dealing exclusively in buy-outs and buy-ins and the company's specialty is leveraged buyouts. Brooke listed the company in 1984 in order to receive investment trust status and capital gains tax exemptions. The company's advantage over domestic competitors is that it does not need to syndicate the required equity due to its large capital base.
