Some factors affecting motorcyclists' conspicuity
Article Abstract:
The conspicuity of motorcyclists depends largely on their nearness to the viewer and their environment but the drivers' psychological states have more to do with accidents than conspicuity. Experiments comparing the conspicuity of motorcyclists to other road users show that brightness contrast between motorcyclists and their surroundings is more important than the total brightness of their clothes. Motorcyclists that are nearer are seen better than those that are far from the viewer. Brightness of the rider and headlight use alone fail to determine their conspicuity.
