Suppression of VAM fungi and micronutrient uptake by low-level P fertilization in long-term wheat rotations
Article Abstract:
It has been established that vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) plant symbiotic fungi increase the mineral nutrition of plants. The effect of wheat rotation and low-level fertilizer applications on the plant availability of micronutrients is investigated in a long term experiment. The study also explored the relation between VAM fungi, low-level P fertilizer and micronutrient uptake by spring wheat. Results of the experiment show, among other things, the need to considering microbial ecology in determining the effects of agronomic variables on soil output.

Response of corn, soybean and wheat crops to fertilizer and herbicides in Ohio compared with low-input production practices
Article Abstract:
A comparative study between low-input practices and conventional practices used in Ohio for the production of corn, soybean and wheat revealed that grain yields increased in all five growing seasons with the use conventional inputs. Results also showed that soil macronutrient were relatively similar for both systems. The use of fertilizers and herbicides had a positive effect with corn and soybean, but not with wheat.
