The Ergonomics Society Lecture 1995: making ergonomics a world-wide concept

Article Abstract:

Ergonomics started as a profession in some industrialized countries in the 1940s, but almost two-thirds of the world population are unaware of the ergonomics' potential applications or are unable to access the results of ergonomics findings. Much of the work in the Third World is degrading and inhumane. Ergonomics intervention can be useful in conditions where unsafe and outdated technology is used or there is inappropriate technology transfer and difficulties in indigenous technology. Ergonomics research should focus on multidisciplinary and globalization approaches.
