"The battle fleet must have eyes"

Article Abstract:

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can dramaticaly improve the capability of a lean battle fleet as force multipliers. However, UAVs should have the capability to take off and land vertically on surface combatants while carrying a wide range of payloads. UAVs are seen increasingly as integral part of naval operations, providing surface combatants wih a real-time ability to see over the horizon. UAVS can also provide target selection, spotting and damage assessments in battle operations.

An unmanned revolution

Article Abstract:

The entry of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into present naval platforms could dramatically improve the fighting capabilities of the US Navy. These vehicles will be capable of enhancing the present firepower, sensing and communicating capabilities of today's naval warfare commander. The future integration of these UAVs, which will require the substantial redesign of the ship's system, will also allow the more efficient use of the ship's manpower complement.

UAVs Hold Promise for No-Fly Zone Enforcement

Article Abstract:

Unmanned aerial vehicles, which are increasingly being using to patrol no-fly zones, offer longer coverage time and a reduction in potential political and military costs. The enforcement of no-fly zones, such as those in Iraq and Bosnia, offer real-time intelligence without risking human air personnel.
