The brokers' serenade

Article Abstract:

Stockbrokers may offer an execution-only service, or they may offer portfolio management for wealthier clients. Intermediaries may be important in providing new business for brokers. Commissions could be affected by downturns, while fees allow advisers to recommend doing nothing if this is appropriate. Wealthy individuals may need strategic advice, including advice on risk management. Clients may come into contact with one part of an organization and the relationship can then be developed.

Corporate take-off

Article Abstract:

The corporate finance market is buoyant in north west England and stockbrokers have benefited from the good conditions in this market. US money has entered the market and US venture capital is competing with listing plans. Smaller companies have been affected by problems with investor sentiment, though this is starting to change. Companies operating in this market include Wise Speke which is setting up a corporate finance office in the city of Leeds, England.
