Analysis of multiple activity manual materials handling tasks using 'A Guide to Manual Materials Handling.'

Article Abstract:

Manual materials handling continues to be a hazardous activity which presents substantial risks to worker well being. A study proposes a design/analysis procedure for multiple activity manual materials handling tasks modified to reflect multiple design approaches. This technique relies on databases provided in the 1993 book 'A Guide to Manual Materials Handling.' The use of this procedure is demonstrated through the discussion of two case studies.

Macroergonomic anticipatory evaluation of work organization in production systems

Article Abstract:

Good ergonomic design results from thinking ahead about the consequences design choices will have. One way of thinking ahead involves a hierarchical scheme with many independent variables. The automobile industry is used as an example with this scheme. Various models for group work are used and connected to figure out how they will work in actual production.
