Rett syndrome in a boy with a 47,XXY karyotype
Article Abstract:
A case is presented of a boy with Rett syndrome (RS) and a 47,XXY karyotype. The boy developed normally until the age of about eight months. The diagnostic criteria for RS were satisfied, although RS is known to occur only in females. Karyotype analyses showed that the patient has 47 chromosomes including an extra X chromosome. The additional X chromosome appeared to originate from the father, as the result of nondisjunction at the first meiotic division.
