The new look of the French stock market

Article Abstract:

France elected conservatives in its spring elections, which should continue the modernizing direction of Mitterrand's government. Economically, Mitterrand's modernization policies focus on reprivatizing currently nationalized industries and attracting foreign investors to capitalize these industries. Restructuring the French stock exchange is a large part of these economic plans. It is predicted that the French bourse will become more like Wall Street than the City of London, and that certain impediments to foreign investment (such as batch trading and exchange controls) will have to be eliminated during reprivatization.

A look at the future of stock options

Article Abstract:

In early 1986, the Financial Accounting Standards board issued tentative proposals regarding employee stock compensation plans. These guidelines, which set a value on stock options, are examined. The possible impact that these guidelines could have on companies is evaluated. The guidelines will discourage the use of stock compensation plans by start-up companies; precisely the companies that have the greatest need for such plans.
