The real curses of Frankenfood

Article Abstract:

Consumers fear genetically engineered foods, primarily because of the pressure exerted by producers of such seeds to force government regulation. They were successful. The motivation for such regulation was profit. Smaller firms would have a more difficult time complying to such regulation. Restrictive regulation was brought about by St. Louis, MO-based Monsanto and other agrochemical/biotechnology companies, who put pressure on the Regan administration for stricter regulation. Now they are all having a hard time selling the public on the idea that genetically engineered food will not cause health problems.
